Grace.
Grace is the free and unmerited favour or beneficence given to someone irrespective of their actions, earned worth, or proven goodness. "For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich" (2 Corinthians 8:9).
Grace is when you help one of your least favourite customers that comes into your place of work at closing time and demands service. You could say, "sorry we're closed" but you open the door and help him anyways. Grace is loving and forgiving the person who just shot and killed your family member.
Grace is God sacrificing Jesus in our place so that His wrath against our sin can be satisfied. "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus" (Romans 3:24-25).
Grace is God giving freely of His blessings to us each day despite us not deserving them. "From the fullness of his grace we have all received one blessing after another. For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ" (John 1:16-17).
It is simply amazing to see God pour out grace into the lives of those whom I love. God is revealing Himself to friends and family that have never know Him before. In turn, some of these people are acknowledging God and His saving grace as real. They are realizing that God has been with them all along, sometimes tugging on their sleeve, sometimes whispering in their ear, and placing people and events in their lives.
This is how I feel ... "Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us" (Romans 5:1-5).
One of dad's favourite passages (which he requested in his will to be read at his passing):
"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do" (Ephesians 2:8-10).
There is much more to be said about grace. I challenge you to search for yourself to see if you have experienced this daily, no, minute by minute grace that God gives to me. If you haven't, God's grace is freely available to you.
